Professional Experience:
In his 40 years of professional experience, he has vast experience in the public and private spheres.
Between 1989 and 1997 he was elected to the post of Deputy of the Republic of Chile, performing important functions in the National Congress, mainly in the Foreign Relations, Constitution, Legislation and Justice Commissions.
In 2008, he was appointed a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the body in charge of providing legal and strategic advice to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile.
In 2011 he was appointed Minister of Justice, a position he held until December 2012.
In 2019 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position he holds until mid-2020.
He has participated in various directories such as Televisión Nacional de Chile (1998 to 2003), British American Tobacco (indicate point) among others.
Likewise, he was appointed First Lawyer Member of the Constitutional Court by the constitutional body itself (2006 to 2008).
He also has outstanding academic experience in the practice, among others, as a professor in the Department of Public Law of the Faculty of Law and of the Institute of Political Science of the University of Chile and of the chair of Public International Law of the Pontificia Universidad Católica. Chile, maintaining since then a close relationship with international issues, especially Ibero-American.
He currently serves as Rector of the Autonomous University of Chile, a position he has held in various periods since 1998.

In the academic field, he is a professor of Civil Law at the Autonomous University of Chile and during the years 2018 to date Dean of the Faculty of Law. Previously, he served during the years 2013 to 2016 as deputy director of postgraduate studies at the same university and as director of the Center for Regulation and Consumption during the years 2016-2018. Today he also works as a researcher at the Law Research Institute and recently launched the Financial Autonomy platform of which he is director.
